This site describes a full set of systems useful for allowing an interoperable assembly of all the virtual worlds: the Metaverse, where an user will be able to teleport to any of the worlds, with the same identity (federated identity) and the same viewer (interoperable worlds). These are the basic condition to the success of virtual worlds, in the same way as the http system did the success of the Internet.
Manifesto of the virtual worlds: Claims for the technical, legal and administrative conditions and tools to have a working metaverse.
The WEM system (World Entry Management): How are managed identities, connexions and teleportations between worlds. The administrative system and the technical system.
The kailye interchange language: A proposal for simulators and viewers to communicate in real time
Roadmad for the implementation of the whole system For now, enumeration of tasks.
The emerging domain of virtual worlds is today blocked by the lack of a generally available system, which would be especially standard and interoperable, providing all the necessary tools and conditions for all users to appropriate the virtual life, and not depending on only one company or interest. Only standards playing a similar role of the HTTP system will allow the Metaverse to really take off, in every domain, whatever for games, social, art, personnal life, business, science, techniques.
However virtual worlds are much more complex than Internet pages, as a 3D connexion involves several links to different resources: world description, chat system, audio channel, etc. It also involves many issues such as speed, ease of use, safety, etc.
Especially a strong requirement is not to do again the mistakes of the 2D Internet, where copyright theft, spam, privacy exposure, anonymous bullying, bugs, etc. are the main limits in many applications. These may have still worse effects in the Metaverse, which adds an eye contact between users, and even a «physical» contact. So we must think from the very start at built-in safeties, without waiting for laws forcing us to painfully rewrite all our systems.
So the purpose of this site is to point at a clear and complete list of technical, human or legal requirements, as far as describing some companies plans or software requirements, up to a messaging language. The whole thing is into an open GNU GPL license to keep it available for everybody. And now everybody is free to select one of these tasks and take a constructive role into the building of the metaverse.
Kailye is a kind of acronym of the elven sindarin words «Kaimel Alye» which literally means «To Dream Together». This may be the best elven translation of «Going virtual», but this also sets the mood: we are in virtual worlds to do things that we cannot do in the physical world, such as being more beautiful characters, more kind, more wise. And the author of the Kailye language created it with the explicit purpose to offer better life experiences in the virtual, which would ultimately drag the physical society forward.
In July 2009 I asked permission to both the Tolkien estate and Harper publishers to use these words, with no reply until now. So I assume that using the name «Kailye» is ok, while being not so sure about the full name «Kaimel Alye».
